Printing Process
Superior Quality Canvas Prints
Mark prides himself on the quality of his limited edition canvas prints. The canvas prints are archival and of the finest quality. The process is explained below.
Photography
Mark employs a professional photographer with over 40 years experience to take 4 x 5 transparencies of each painting he produces. This large scale camera uses negatives several times the size of a 35mm camera. This camera produces transparencies which are similar in appearance to slides but larger and with significantly higher detail and subtlety. These transparencies are much more subtle than any of the results Mark has seen even from some of the most advanced digital cameras. The high quality of the photography is one of the very important ingredients that lead to Mark’s canvas prints being of very high resolution, as well as being extremely faithful to the original oil painting.
Canvas
The canvas used in the production of Mark’s canvas prints is of museum quality. Mark would like to explain why the canvas he use is of superior quality to most other products on the market. The canvas has been tested independently by Wilhelm Research ( www.wilhelm-research.com ) to last 100 + years. Wilhelm Research has tested this type of canvas extensively and they believe it will not yellow or fade over the client’s lifetime. The canvas is pre-primed with acid free gesso to provide for long term archival quality of the canvases. The weight (gsm) of the canvas is much higher than of any other canvas on the market, meaning it is extremely sturdy and is going to last.
Inks
The ink used in the production of Mark’s canvas prints is of the highest quality. This leads to super sharp image reproduction. The inks used in the production of his canvases are UV resistant and display a much larger gamut of colours.
Large retailers use poor quality canvas and low quality inks which leads to a cheap inferior mass produced product. Remember, you get what you pay for.
Limited Edition Canvas Prints: Unstretched/Unframed or Stretched and Ready to Hang.
When purchasing limited edition canvas prints the client has the choice between unstretched/unframed canvas prints or canvas prints that have been stretched over heavy duty wooden frames and are ready to hang.
If you wish to have your own framer stretch the canvas print over a wooden frame you should choose unstretched/unframed and your limited canvas print will be sent to you a postal tube. Every canvas print has extra canvas to stretch round the back of the print to ensure it is easy to stretch correctly. You may also choose this option if you wish to have your canvas print traditionally framed. The advantages of receiving your limited edition canvas print unstretched/unframed in a postal tube is that the postage and handling of unstretched canvases are included in the initial purchase price and Mark will have it delivered to any where in Australia for no extra charge.
The advantage of having your limited edition canvas print delivered pre-stretched over a heavy duty wooden frame is that as soon as you unwrap it you can hang it on your wall.
